Movie weekend

Posted in media, personal by lounatik on March 7, 2010

Saw these two movies this weekend:

I saw Alice last Saturday in 3D. It was awesome, in that, on it rode very high expectations. But Alice very well delivered. It was entertaining, the graphics was good, and Helena Bonham Carter rawked. I’m not quite sure if I like the quasi-romance they put in between some characters but the way Tim Burton did it, subtle, read-between-the-lines kind of thing, I suppose it was acceptable. Besides, I learned in university that love and/or romance is always part of the story. The hero always has a girl he fancies. Forilz.

In the beginning of Alice, I found myself in between movies. The courtyard scene, I thought I was in Marie Antoniette. I forget the other movies, sorry. But yeah. It was expectedly great. I suppose you would hear bigger reactions from me if it surprised a wee bit, but can’t ask for anything more. It was good. Helena was grrrrreat. Jabba-baby-wockeeez!

On Sunday, I saw the movie I had been crushing on since December.

What can I say? I like George Clooney. Now I’m pretty certain I love him. I love how his crow’s feet crinkles whenever he smiles. :) Jeeez, I’m smiling thinking about it.

Again, it was as expected: life, love, family, career. Right up my alley. What I didn’t expect was the awesome story-telling, good characterization. And George Clooney being a fucking charming man. There were a few things I didn’t quite appreciate:

1. Karen crying when she announced her break up. Over the top, man. Also, like a punchline waiting for the laughter. Not my thing.
2. A scruffy Jason Bateman. He’s Jason Bateman. He’s cool as it is!

What I did appreciate was what could possibly be a Janeane Garofalo cameo. Yup, if you’re just about to watch Up in the Air, kindly pay attention to the Kansas City scene. She could be the receptionist.

I like the open-endedness of it, the songs they used, and just how real and honest those intimate scenes between Ryan and Alex seemed to be. A lot of people will call it chemistry. I think it may simply be good acting. When Ryan’s  (george, here baby) crow’s feet crinkles whenever he smiles—and he smiles a lottt—it was just gooey with sincerity.

There was a scene there were Karen and Alex were talking about their dream men, which I love. It was bordering on cliche but again, it was just so honest—there goes the word again. Girls love dreaming their dream guys. Anyway, both women mention a nice smile. And you know what? I couldn’t help but agree. Sometimes, that’s all a girl needs.

When she looks across the room and there, her guy is, looking in her direction, smiling that wonderful smile, crinkling crow’s feet and all. I love it when that happens.

Can’t wait for that to happen again to me. I am waiting for that to happen again to me. I am in wait, certain it will happen. And soon.

Because as you may notice, things are up in the air with me. That may be a stupid girl’s talk still hoping for a guy who may just not be into her. But screw you. That’s a stupid girl who’s conversed with her god and who’s been promised her mister right, a girl who’s learning how to be patient and how to be faithful. So this is me, on yet another Sunday night, believing that everything will fall into place.

Home of a Flaming Lip

Posted in design, media, music by lounatik on February 16, 2010

Over at pitchfork today, they showed the quirky home of Flaming Lip Wayne Coyne. It’s rather cute, in an out of this world kind of way. Hehe

Looking at the gallery, I begin the think: no wonder his music is like that, thinking that maybe his surroundings influence his way of thinking. But a few photos later, I take it back: nah, he must think like that all the time. The guy is a quirky genius! Check out some photos:

and then:

kaboom! spaceh!

(all photos from fitzsimmons architects)

Cute, no? Ah musicians, they are a very interesting lot, aren’t they? Dunno if I can maintain this space but I suppose it can be very interesting living here.

Who’s Up in the Air?

Posted in media, personal by lounatik on December 8, 2009

Just as I didn’t know what to do to combat jetlag—I’m in LA, by the way—there I see the trailer of
Up in the Air on TV. Starring George Clooney!

This early on, I’m claiming this movie. I just hope I’m not speaking too soon because

  1. I have yet to see the movie.
  2. it may end horribly.
  3. it may suck bigtime.

Oh, but the trailer looks very, very promising:

Of course this isn’t what I saw half-asleep. I do remember Iggy Pop’s Passenger so maybe this is what I saw:

Dear readers, I’m ready to make the connection. Bring it on.

On a different note, my trip is still up in the air. I don’t know when I’ll fly back. I’m confirmed for this Sunday but my ticket ain’t with me yet.

But. I’m trusting the universe. I won’t nag or bother anymore. Because:

Everything will fall into place.

Ngilang imaheng gumugulong sa aking isipan

Habang naghihintay sa elevator kanina
bigla kong naisip:
sana bumukas yung elevator
na walang laman kundi ikaw.

Tapos
alam mo na yun.

Hindi naman malayong mangyari, diba?
May mga araw rin kasing narito ka lang rin
